𑆖𑆠𑆶𑆰𑇀𑆛𑆪𑆢𑆸𑆯𑆵𑆑𑆼𑆮 𑆩𑆿𑆤𑆳𑆤𑇀𑆤𑆴𑆓𑆫𑆟𑆳𑆫𑇀𑆡𑆠𑆂𑇆

नमस्ते शारदादेवि प्रहेलिकाविशारदे  ।
चतुष्टयदृशीकेव मौनान्निगरणार्थतः॥

Namaste śāradādevi prahelikāviśārade  |
Catuṣṭayadṛśīkeva maunānnigaraṇārthataḥ ||

Salutation (namaḥ) to You (te), Goddess Śāradā (śāradā-devi)!
(Who is) skilled at twisting (prahelikā-vi-śārade) like (iva) the fourfold appearance (catuṣṭaya-dṛśīkā), (which rises) for consuming (nigaraṇa-arthataḥ) from silence (maunāt). ||

चेतनाप्रगमनं महानयात्कुण्डलीक्रमणमेव संसृतौ  ।
पाशनिर्विवरतादिरेव यो योगमार्गहवनं क्षणं परम्॥

Cetanāpragamanaṃ mahānayātkuṇḍalīkramaṇameva saṁsṛtau  |
Pāśanirvivaratādireva yo yogamārgahavanaṃ kṣaṇaṃ param ||

The progress of Awareness (cetanā-pragamanam) (that is) truly (eva) the process of Kuṇḍalinī (kuṇḍalī-kramaṇam), (which appears) on the Great Way (of Spiritual Elevation) (mahā-ānayāt), solely begins with a (certain) understanding of (one’s) limitations (pāśa-nirvivaratā-ādiḥ), which is (yaḥ) an invocation of the Path of Yoga (yoga-mārga-havanam), (and) a supreme (param) moment (kṣaṇam) during transmigratory existence (saṁsṛtau). ||

केवला प्रभुरिव त्वमास्थिता भाति केवलमनेकधा धियाम्  ।
त्वां प्रजासु रहिते च यास्तु ते संयजन्ति बहुषु प्रवर्तिनी ॥१॥

Kevalā prabhuriva tvamāsthitā bhāti kevalamanekadhā dhiyām  |
Tvāṃ prajāsu rahite ca yāstu te saṃyajanti bahuṣu pravartinī || 1 ||

You are (tvam) the only (kevalā) Active Being (pravartinī) (Who) appears (bhāti) as the One (kevalam) Lord (prabhuḥ…iva) in many (bahuṣu), and (ca) (Who) abides (āsthitā) in various ways (anekadhā) in the mind (dhiyām) of your (te) children (prajāsu) (who) adore (yāḥ…saṃyajanti…tu) You (tvām) secretly --i.e. everyone in the world‑- (rahite).  || 1 ||

कस्यचित्त्वमसि वा निरोधिनी कस्यचिद्भवसि वारिता भृशम्  ।
लेख्यका त्वमपि दुःखविभ्रमौ कस्यचित्त्वमसि वा विपादिका ॥२॥

Kasyacittvamasi vā nirodhinī kasyacidbhavasi vāritā bhṛśam  |
Lekhyakā tvamapi duḥkhavibhramau kasyacittvamasi vā vipādikā || 2 ||

But (vā) for some (kasyacid), You (tvam) are (asi) an obscuring Power (nirodhinī), for some (kasyacid), You are (bhavasi) greatly (bhṛśam) hidden (vāritā), but (vā) You (can be) (tvam) sorrow, riddle, or doubt (vipādikā…duḥkha-vibhramau), and for some (kasyacid), You are (tvam) simply (api) written (lekhyakā). || 2 ||

𑆪𑆳 𑆠𑆶 𑆠𑆼𑆤 𑆑𑆴𑆬 𑆫𑆾𑆲𑆱𑆼 𑆪𑆠𑆾’𑆠𑆼𑆘𑆱𑆴 𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆩𑆴𑆲 𑆠𑆱𑇀𑆪 𑆬𑆑𑇀𑆰𑆴𑆠𑆳 𑇆𑇓𑇆

रक्षसि प्रथममायुरीदृशं प्रत्ययं परवतस्त्वमम्बिका  ।
या तु तेन किल रोहसे यतो’तेजसि त्वमिह तस्य लक्षिता ॥३॥

Rakṣasi prathamamāyurīdṛśaṃ pratyayaṃ paravatastvamambikā  |
Yā tu tena kila rohase yato’tejasi tvamiha tasya lakṣitā || 3 ||

In this world (iha) at first (prathamam), You are (tvam) the Mother (ambikā) of the helpless one (paravataḥ), truly (tu) considered (lakṣitā…yā) by him (tena…kila) as life (āyuḥ). (You) protect (rakṣasi) such a (īdṛśam) belief (pratyayam) of his (tasya) in the shadow (atejasi), wherefrom (yataḥ) You (tvam) rise (rohase). || 3 ||

𑆢𑆼𑆮𑆠𑆳 𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆩𑆥𑆴 𑆨𑆳𑆠𑆴 𑆪𑆳 𑆪𑆢𑆳 𑆠𑆼𑆤 𑆠𑆢𑇀𑆣𑆸𑆢𑆴 𑆱𑆢𑆳 𑆱𑆩𑆵𑆲𑆴𑆠𑆳  𑇅
𑆱𑆳 𑆥𑆫𑆳 𑆥𑇀𑆫𑆟𑆪𑆴𑆤𑆵 𑆠𑆶 𑆩𑆣𑇀𑆪𑆩𑆳 𑆖𑆼𑆠𑆱𑆴 𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆩𑆤𑆶𑆫𑆑𑇀𑆠𑆪𑆼 𑆠𑆢𑆳 𑇆𑇔𑇆

देवता त्वमपि भाति या यदा तेन तद्धृदि सदा समीहिता  ।
सा परा प्रणयिनी तु मध्यमा चेतसि त्वमनुरक्तये तदा ॥४॥

Devatā tvamapi bhāti yā yadā tena taddhṛdi sadā samīhitā  |
Sā parā praṇayinī tu madhyamā cetasi tvamanuraktaye tadā || 4 ||

But (api) when You (tvam) appear (bhāti) as the Deity (devatā) for Whom (yā) he (tena) is always (sadā) longing (samīhitā) in his heart (tat-hṛdi), You (tadā…tvam), -for (the sake of) devotion (anuraktaye)-, (become) the (sā) most intimate (madhyamā) supreme (parā) devotee (praṇayinī…tu) in mind (cetasi). || 4 ||

𑆨𑆑𑇀𑆠𑆴𑆩𑆳𑆫𑇀𑆓𑆩𑆥𑆴 𑆥𑆵𑆥𑆴𑆮𑆳𑆤𑇀𑆪𑆢𑆳 𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆁 𑆑𑇀𑆰𑆟𑆼 𑆨𑆮𑆱𑆴 𑆮𑆳 𑆫𑆠𑆳𑆫𑇀𑆡𑆴𑆤𑆂  𑇅
𑆩𑆳𑆢𑆤𑆱𑇀𑆪 𑆖𑆴𑆠𑆴 𑆣𑆳𑆩 𑆤𑆳𑆡𑆢𑆷𑆠𑇀𑆪𑆳𑆂 𑆱𑆩𑆳𑆯𑇀𑆫𑆪𑆱𑆴 𑆱𑆩𑇀𑆥𑇀𑆫𑆱𑆳𑆢𑆠𑆂 𑇆𑇕𑇆

भक्तिमार्गमपि पीपिवान्यदा त्वं क्षणे भवसि वा रतार्थिनः  ।
मादनस्य चिति धाम नाथदूत्याः समाश्रयसि सम्प्रसादतः ॥५॥

Bhaktimārgamapi pīpivānyadā tvaṃ kṣaṇe bhavasi vā ratārthinaḥ  |
Mādanasya citi dhāma nāthadūtyāḥ samāśrayasi samprasādataḥ || 5 ||

When (yadā) You (tvam) truly (api) become (bhavasi) exuberant (pīpivān) with the Path of Devotion (bhakti-mārgam) in the moments (kṣaṇe) of amorous (ratārthinaḥ) delight (mādanasya), (You) enter (samāśrayasi) the Abode (dhāma) of the Messenger of the Lord (nātha-dūtyāḥ) through the confidence (samprasādataḥ) of mind (citi). || 5 ||

𑆨𑆳𑆠𑆴 𑆱𑆩𑇀𑆥𑇀𑆫𑆑𑆶𑆫𑆶𑆰𑆼 𑆖 𑆯𑆵𑆫𑇀𑆪𑆠𑆼 𑆱𑆫𑇀𑆮𑆑𑆳𑆬𑆩𑆩𑆠𑆳𑆁 𑆠𑆶 𑆤𑆴𑆫𑇀𑆢𑆛𑆳𑆩𑇀 𑇆𑇖𑇆

ईदृशे मननशोषिमण्डलं मन्थने निरवधि त्वमम्बरम्  ।
भाति सम्प्रकुरुषे च शीर्यते सर्वकालममतां तु निर्दटाम् ॥६॥

Īdṛśe mananaśoṣimaṇḍalaṃ manthane niravadhi tvamambaram  |
Bhāti samprakuruṣe ca śīryate sarvakālamamatāṃ tu nirdaṭām || 6 ||

During such (īdṛśe) a churning (manthane), You (tvam) appear (bhāti) as the Endless (niravadhi) Sky (ambaram) (when) the dry company of thinking (manana-śoṣi-maṇḍalam) fades (śīryate) and (ca) (You) render (samprakuruṣe) useless (nirdaṭām) the constant notion of ‘mine’ (sarva-kāla-mama-tām…tu). || 6 ||

𑆆𑆯𑇀𑆮𑆫𑆵 𑆑𑇀𑆰𑆶𑆣𑆴𑆠𑆑𑆳𑆬𑆴𑆑𑆳𑆩𑆶𑆒𑆼 𑆱𑆫𑇀𑆮𑆢𑆳 𑆤𑆴𑆫𑆮𑆑𑆳𑆯𑆪𑆾𑆤𑆴𑆓𑆼  𑇅
𑆱𑆁𑆓𑆠𑆼 𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆩𑆱𑆴 𑆯𑆕𑇀𑆑𑆯𑆷𑆤𑇀𑆪𑆠𑆳𑆠𑇀𑆩𑆳𑆠𑇀𑆩𑆠𑆼 𑆑𑆱𑆠𑆴 𑆪𑆠𑇀𑆫 𑆱𑆁𑆮𑆴𑆢𑆂 𑇆𑇗𑇆

ईश्वरी क्षुधितकालिकामुखे सर्वदा निरवकाशयोनिगे  ।
संगते त्वमसि शङ्कशून्यतात्मात्मते कसति यत्र संविदः ॥७॥

Īśvarī kṣudhitakālikāmukhe sarvadā niravakāśayonige  |
Saṁgate tvamasi śaṅkaśūnyatātmātmate kasati yatra saṁvidaḥ || 7 ||

(Then,) You (tvam) are (asi) the Mistress (īśvarī) (Who) is Shining (kasati) in the Voracious Mouth of Kālikā (kṣudhita-kālikā-mukhe) (which) is standing in the Timeless Womb (niravakāśa-yoni-ge) of Consciousness (saṁvidaḥ), where (yatra) the void of doubts and the Essence of Self (śaṅka-śūnya-tā-ātmā-ātmate) are always (sarvadā) unite (saṁgate). || 7 ||

𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆁 𑆑𑆫𑆾𑆠𑆴 𑆢𑆸𑆞𑆩𑆷𑆞𑆥𑆷𑆫𑇀𑆮𑆴𑆑𑆳𑆁 𑆠𑆳𑆩𑆤𑆤𑇀𑆠𑆫𑆩𑆤𑆳𑆡𑆱𑆁𑆘𑇀𑆚𑆴𑆑𑆳𑆩𑇀  𑇅
𑆗𑆴𑆤𑇀𑆤𑆬𑆾𑆖𑆤𑆮𑆴𑆧𑆾𑆣𑆤𑆁 𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆪𑆳 𑆪𑆱𑇀𑆪 𑆪𑆂 𑆥𑇀𑆫𑆡𑆩𑆩𑆾𑆑𑆮𑆼𑆯𑆑𑆂 𑇆𑇘𑇆

त्वं करोति दृढमूढपूर्विकां तामनन्तरमनाथसंज्ञिकाम्  ।
छिन्नलोचनविबोधनं त्वया यस्य यः प्रथममोकवेशकः ॥८॥

Tvaṃ karoti dṛḍhamūḍhapūrvikāṃ tāmanantaramanāthasaṁjñikām  |
Chinnalocanavibodhanaṃ tvayā yasya yaḥ prathamamokaveśakaḥ || 8 ||

You (tvam) create (karoti) the one (tām) (who) previously was thoroughly ignorant (dṛḍha-mūḍha-pūrvikām), (but) afterwards (anantaram) known as the ‘helpless’ (anātha-saṁjñikām). Who (yaḥ) possesses (yasya) the awakening (which) belongs (to those whose) eyes are opened (like a painful wound which is performed) (chinna-locana-vibodhanam) by You (tvayā) at first (prathamam), (is someone who) enters the Shelter (oka-veśakaḥ). || 8 ||

𑆏𑆑𑆤𑆳𑆡𑆥𑆫𑆣𑆳𑆩𑆓𑆾𑆥𑆶𑆫𑆁 𑆱𑇀𑆮𑆥𑇀𑆫𑆧𑆶𑆢𑇀𑆣𑆩𑆠𑆴𑆱𑆷𑆖𑆴𑆠𑆳𑆯𑆪𑆼  𑇅
𑆪𑆠𑇀𑆫 𑆥𑆷𑆘𑆤𑆩𑆥𑆴 𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆩𑆳𑆥𑇀𑆬𑆶𑆠𑆳 𑆨𑆳𑆠𑆴 𑆨𑆑𑇀𑆠𑆴𑆮𑆤𑆤𑆼𑆤 𑆪𑆳 𑆩𑆠𑆼𑆂 𑇆𑇙𑇆

ओकनाथपरधामगोपुरं स्वप्रबुद्धमतिसूचिताशये  ।
यत्र पूजनमपि त्वमाप्लुता भाति भक्तिवननेन या मतेः ॥९॥

Okanāthaparadhāmagopuraṃ svaprabuddhamatisūcitāśaye  |
Yatra pūjanamapi tvamāplutā bhāti bhaktivananena yā mateḥ || 9 ||

The monumental entrance of the Abode of the Lord of the Shelter (oka-nātha-para-dhāma-gopuram) is in one’s own heart, (and) pointed out by woken intellect (sva-pra-buddha-mati-sūcita-āśaye), where --i.e. in one’s own heart-- (yatra) You (tvam), Who (yā) also (api) appear (bhāti) as Worship (pūjanam), are sprinkled (āplutā) with a desire for devotion (bhakti-vananena) (, which) rises from (such) an understanding (mateḥ). || 9 ||

𑆠𑆠𑇀𑆫 𑆨𑆷𑆩𑆴𑆢𑆴𑆣𑆴𑆫𑆼𑆮𑆩𑆤𑇀𑆠𑆫𑆁 𑆪𑆠𑇀𑆫 𑆪𑆳 𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆩𑆲𑆩𑆴𑆠𑇀𑆪𑆶𑆥𑆳𑆪𑆤𑆩𑇀  𑇅
𑆨𑆳𑆮𑆴𑆠𑆳 𑆱𑇀𑆮𑆥𑆫𑆥𑆵𑆜𑆫𑆷𑆥𑆠𑆳 𑆱𑇀𑆥𑆤𑇀𑆢𑆴𑆠𑆁 𑆠𑆮 𑆓𑆶𑆲𑆳 𑆩𑆲𑆳𑆤𑆪𑆼 𑇆𑇑𑇐𑇆

तत्र भूमिदिधिरेवमन्तरं यत्र या त्वमहमित्युपायनम्  ।
भाविता स्वपरपीठरूपता स्पन्दितं तव गुहा महानये ॥१०॥

Tatra bhūmididhirevamantaraṃ yatra yā tvamahamityupāyanam  |
Bhāvitā svaparapīṭharūpatā spanditaṃ tava guhā mahānaye || 10 ||

There (tatra), in this way (evam), (appears) Your (tava) Secret (guhā) which is (yā) the stability of the ground (bhūmi-didhiḥ) within (antaram), (and is) composed of one’s own Supreme Seat (sva-para-pīṭha-rūpatā), (which is) experienced (bhāvitā) on the Great Way (mahā-ānaye), where (yatra) an Initiation or Gift (upāyanam) pulsates (spanditam) as (iti) “You and me” (tvam…aham). || 10 ||

𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆁 𑆩𑆪𑆳 𑆤𑆨𑆱𑆴 𑆪𑆤𑇀𑆤 𑆗𑆴𑆤𑇀𑆤𑆩𑆶𑆝𑇀𑆝𑆵𑆪𑆱𑆼 𑆪𑆶𑆓𑆥𑆢𑆶𑆠𑇀𑆠𑆫𑆁 𑆪𑆠𑆂  𑇅
𑆪𑆠𑇀𑆫 𑆠𑆴𑆰𑇀𑆜𑆠𑆴 𑆮𑆴𑆥𑆳𑆢𑆴𑆑𑆳 𑆤 𑆲𑆵 𑆢𑆶𑆂𑆒𑆩𑆼𑆮 𑆤 𑆖 𑆮𑆴𑆨𑇀𑆫𑆩𑆾 𑆤 𑆖 𑇆𑇑𑇑𑇆

त्वं मया नभसि यन्न छिन्नमुड्डीयसे युगपदुत्तरं यतः  ।
यत्र तिष्ठति विपादिका न ही दुःखमेव न च विभ्रमो न च ॥११॥

Tvaṃ mayā nabhasi yanna chinnamuḍḍīyase yugapaduttaraṃ yataḥ  |
Yatra tiṣṭhati vipādikā na hī duḥkhameva na ca vibhramo na ca || 11 ||

Wherefrom (yataḥ) You (tvam) fly up (uḍḍīyase) with (yugapad) ‘me’ (mayā) to the Sky (nabhasi), wherein (yatra) nothing (na) is left (uttaram) to divide (yat…chinnam), hence (hī), no (na) sorrow (duḥkham), no (na) doubt (vibhramaḥ), and (ca…ca) not (na) even (eva) riddle (vipādikā) survives (tiṣṭhati). || 11 ||

𑆢𑆶𑆂𑆒𑆩𑆼𑆮 𑆤 𑆬𑆬𑆳𑆤𑇀𑆠𑆴𑆑𑆁 𑆖 𑆑𑆴𑆁 𑆮𑆴𑆨𑇀𑆫𑆩𑆱𑇀𑆠𑇀𑆮𑆩𑆴𑆠𑆴 𑆮𑆳𑆫𑆴𑆠𑆾 𑆤 𑆑𑆂  𑇅
𑆤𑆽𑆮 𑆑𑆳 𑆱𑇀𑆮𑆲𑆮𑆤𑆁 𑆮𑆴𑆥𑆳𑆢𑆴𑆑𑆳 𑆪𑆶𑆓𑇀𑆪𑆠𑆂 𑆱𑆢𑆴𑆲 𑆠𑆼 𑆪𑆢𑆵𑆢𑆸𑆯𑆩𑇀 𑇆𑇑𑇒𑇆

दुःखमेव न ललान्तिकं च किं विभ्रमस्त्वमिति वारितो न कः  ।
नैव का स्वहवनं विपादिका युग्यतः सदिह ते यदीदृशम् ॥१२॥

Duḥkhameva na lalāntikaṃ ca kiṃ vibhramastvamiti vārito na kaḥ  |
Naiva kā svahavanaṃ vipādikā yugyataḥ sadiha te yadīdṛśam || 12 ||

But (eva) what (kim) is sorrow (duḥkham), (if) not (na) a playful Presence (lala-antikam), and (ca) what (kaḥ) is doubt (vibhramaḥ) (if) not (na) You (tvam) “hidden” (iti… vāritaḥ)? What (kā) is riddle (vipādikā) if (yadi) not (na…eva) one’s Calling (sva-havanam), as (yataḥ) such (īdṛśam) a pair (yuj) here (iha) is Your (te) Essence (sat)? || 12 ||

त्वं पुरा प्रचकिता निराकुलं दर्शने तव भुजान्तरं परम्  ।
तत्त्वया हृदयलेखमुद्गते ते प्रखादितुमिमे विलासके ॥१३॥

Tvaṃ purā pracakitā nirākulaṃ darśane tava bhujāntaraṃ param  |
Tattvayā hṛdayalekhamudgate te prakhāditumime vilāsake || 13 ||

You (tvam) are the One Who fears (purā…pracakitā), and then (param) calmness is (nirākulam) (attained) in Your (tava) Arms (bhuja-antaram). These are (ime) the faces (darśane) of You (te) (which) dance (vilāsake), (and) You (tvayā) unleash (ut-gate) to consume (pra-khāditum) the (tat) qualm (hṛdaya-lekham). || 13 ||

उत्तरं च किल मध्यमे तयोः पृष्टमेव च न युध्यतो यतः  ।
मध्यवर्ण इति कल्पना न सा किंचिदेव तदृते स्वसंविदः ॥१४॥

Uttaraṃ ca kila madhyame tayoḥ pṛṣṭameva ca na yudhyato yataḥ  |
Madhyavarṇa iti kalpanā na sā kiṃcideva tadṛte svasaṁvidaḥ || 14 ||

For (yataḥ) between (madhyame) them --i.e. between fear and calmness-- (tayoḥ), the (sā) conception (kalpanā) behind the word ‘between’ (madhya-varṇaḥ…iti) (appears) as something --i.e. the mystery-- (tat…kiṃcid), (which is) not (na) different (ṛte) from one’s own Consciousness (sva-saṁvidaḥ), (wherein) truly (kila) no (na) questions (pṛṣṭam…eva) and (ca…ca) answers (uttaram) battle (yudhyataḥ). || 14 ||

संविदं सुलुलिता स्तवीमि तां या विनायकवनं करोति वा  ।
व्योमलेखनमपीह निश्चला संश्रिता वपुषि शान्तिशालिनी ॥१५॥

Saṁvidaṃ sululitā stavīmi tāṃ yā vināyakavanaṃ karoti vā  |
Vyomalekhanamapīha niścalā saṁśritā vapuṣi śāntiśālinī || 15 ||

I venerate (stavīmi) that (tām) Consciousness (saṁvidam), which (yā) playfully (sululitā) creates (karoti) the forest of obstacles (vināyaka-vanam), which scrapes the Sky (vyoma-lekhanam), but (vā) also (api) abounding in Peace (śānti-śālinī) (and) dwelling (saṁśritā) in Essence (vapuṣi) immovable (niścalā) in this world (iha). || 15 ||

I venerate (stavīmi) that (tām) immovable (niścalā) Consciousness (saṁvidam), which is (yā) abounding in Peace (śānti-śālinī) and dwelling (saṁśritā) in Essence (vapuṣi), but (vā) pleasantly dancing (sululitā) in this world (iha), (and) surely (api) takes hold of (karoti) the Quill of the Sky (vyoma-lekhanam) (that is) the Ray of Light (which) removes (obstacles of illusion) --i.e. Consciousness teaches-- (vināyaka-vanam). || 15 ||
